In contrast, a hitherto little-researched corpus of fairy tale and legend texts from the Bavarian-Bohemian border region bears witness to the unadulterated storytelling culture of the rural population. In the following article, it becomes clear to what extent the textual genesis of the 'Kinder- und Hausmärchen' focuses on the establishment of a bourgeois linguistic culture, which distinguishes itself from the behaviour of the nobility and peasant life alike. This paper looks at political celebrations in the German Empire and uses photographic examples to show how imperial celebrations were part of colonial life culture and a means of distancing oneself from the African/non-white 'other'. The birthday celebration of the German Kaiser Wilhelm II served to maintain white imperial identity through an artificial separation from the colonised, even though coloniser and colonised shared many intimate spaces. This paper will use visual sources from the colonial period to analyse issues of whiteness in the German and Cameroonian contexts, showing how white imperialists were willing to go to great lengths to maintain their supposed whiteness. It will also present an idea that allows for a connection between white cultural elitism and colonial domination. I will discuss the images according to the approaches of Whiteness Studies in combination with Panofsky's method of image analysis. 2024-10-24T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright © https://journals.phil.muni.cz/bbgn/article/view/39501 Johann "Hanns" Wondratsch : ein nahezu vergessener Prager Germanist südmährischer Herkunft 2024-10-29T08:31:09+01:00 Václav Kříž email@journals.phil.muni.cz The article introduces the nowadays almost forgotten personality of Germanic linguistics Johann "Hanns" Wondratsch. An initial biographical medallion is followed by an overview of his dissertation, focusing on the influence of the Anabaptist community on the former German dialect of South Moravia. Finally, the article concludes with remarks on Johann Wondratsch's other published work. 2024-10-24T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright © https://journals.phil.muni.cz/bbgn/article/view/39502 "Spaziergänge im Zick-Zack" : Paul Leppin im Feuilleton der Prager Zeitschrift Die Wahrheit 2024-10-29T08:31:10+01:00 Štěpán Zbytovský email@journals.phil.muni.cz The article provides an overview of the journalistic activities of the Prague-based German writer Paul Leppin for the magazine Die Warheit, which in 1925-1933 was one of Leppin's main publishing platforms. More in-depth attention is paid to the author’s general theses on art, Czech-German relations and his own attitude towards the Czechoslovak Republic, reviews of German writers from the Czech lands and film criticism. These aspects of Leppin's journalistic work for Die Wahrheit are complemented by insights into the contexts of literary and cultural-political discussions and events. The author’s self-stylization as a unique witness to old Prague, his specific interest in the moral dimension of art, and his defense of kitsch filmmaking at a time of economic and political crisis in Europe are highlighted. 2024-10-24T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright © https://journals.phil.muni.cz/bbgn/article/view/39503 Erinnerungen in Worten : die Rolle der Sprache in der Exilliteratur in den Werken von Saša Stanišić 2024-10-29T08:31:10+01:00 Semih Murić email@journals.phil.muni.cz The paper explores the role of the native language of Yugoslavia in Saša Stanišić's novel How the Soldier Repairs the Gramophone. On one hand, the texts portray the social, political, and societal realities of pre- and post-war life in the former homeland, and on the other hand, they delve into profound personal and collective memories. The author examines the memories and language of the characters originating from Yugoslavia. The depiction of cultural, social, and political realities, which emerges from the literary representations and the theme of memory, is directly crafted within the texts. Literary works by authors like Saša Stanišić create this image by intertwining personal experiences with fictional narratives. This article explores the question of how the so-called pragmatic turn in linguistics has shaped foreign language didactics. In doing so, sub-areas of pragmatics as well as foreign language didactics are taken up terminologically. After presenting the theoretical foundations of the sub-disciplines of linguistics and foreign language didactics, it is shown how the aforementioned academic disciplines can be interlinked, which is of central interest for this text. The reflection focuses on the area of the pragmatic turn, which was an important point for the reorientation of linguistic research in the second half of the 20th century. 2024-10-24T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright © https://journals.phil.muni.cz/bbgn/article/view/39505 Vereinfachte Formen des DACH-Deutschen im DaF-Unterricht 2024-10-29T08:31:11+01:00 Anna Hycnar email@journals.phil.muni.cz The paper presents regulated varieties of German in their national (DACH) variants. These include, above all, Leichte Sprache, Einfache Sprache, Klarsprache, Plain Language or bürgernahe Sprache. The individual language varieties are developed for diverse target groups and a common denominator that connects the addressees is their ability, which is limited for various reasons, to perceive and understand the standard form of the German language. The target group of the restricted language varieties can also include GFL learners for whom the German language in its standard variants poses a linguistic challenge in the initial phase of learning. At the same time, there is often a considerable need, especially among adult language learners, to read, listen to and understand factual, practical or fictional texts. The paper gives examples from teaching practice of how the need for less barrier-free communication can be met through a targeted, learner-oriented use of the simplified language variant in GFL lessons. 2024-10-24T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright © https://journals.phil.muni.cz/bbgn/article/view/39506 Umsetzung des DACH-Prinzips in den Sprachkursen im Österreich Institut Polen 2024-10-29T08:31:12+01:00 Damian Molicki email@journals.phil.muni.cz The implementation of the DACH principle takes place in the language courses offered by the Austrian Institute in Poland. The institute’s goal is to acknowledge the diversity of the German-speaking world and provide learners with language skills and cultural insights. To put the DACH principle into practice, the Austrian Institute uses various sources, such as textbooks and online sources. Each class addresses differences in vocabulary, pronunciation, spelling, grammar, and pragmatics. It is emphasized that not all regional variants of German need to be discussed and covered in detail. Mastery of all language varieties is not required, instead, learners are encouraged to be aware of the existence of different variants. The fundamental goal is to sensitize learners to the diversity and multiperspectivity of the German-speaking world and teach them appropriate responses if they do not understand regional expressions. The following article presents selected methods for implementing the DACH principle. 2024-10-24T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright © https://journals.phil.muni.cz/bbgn/article/view/39507 Endringer i Språkrådets På godt norsk-ordliste mellom 2004 og 2024 2024-10-29T08:31:13+01:00 Tomáš Bratina email@journals.phil.muni.cz In its efforts to preserve and promote the Norwegian language, Språkrådet (the Language Council of Norway) provides recommendations for replacing English loanwords with Norwegian equivalents. These recommendations are compiled in a list known as "På godt norsk" ("In Good Norwegian"). The aim of this paper is to compare the 2004 version of this list with its 2024 version, examining the changes made over the past two decades. Specifically, the study focuses on words that are new and those that have been removed from the list. Additionally, attention is given to alterations in words that have remained on the list. Through this comparative analysis, the paper seeks to shed light on the dynamics of language adaptation in response to social and technological developments. Moreover, the concept of domain loss is addressed, highlighting the potential displacement of Norwegian by English in specific fields, posing a significant challenge to the preservation of the Norwegian language across all areas of society. 2024-10-24T00:00:00+02:00 Copyright © https://journals.phil.muni.cz/bbgn/article/view/39508 [Bračič, Stojan; Čuden, Darko.
