The study examines the work of the Hungarian Nobel laureate Imre Kertész in comparison with that of the Czech writer Arnošt Lustig. The aim of the study is to examine selected distinctive features of Kertész's work and to offer a comparison of two major figures of national literatures whose writing was fundamentally shaped by the experience of the Holocaust. At the same time, the study highlights the different ways in which the two authors were received within their respective cultural contexts. In their literary works, both authors depict the tragedy of Jewish destinies during the Second World War on the basis of their own personal experiences. The introductory section situates Kertész within the Czech cultural and media context and outlines the fundamental biographical parallels between Kertész and Lustig.

The process of constructing literary space is based on the belief in the ability of words to create an imaginary image of the world. But how can this space be evoked by words within literary fiction? The study aims to open up the issue of the semantic level of space in literary works, focusing on the potential of landscape-forming elements to acquire different meanings and intermediate values. The emphasis is on Czech literary Romanticism, with a focus on its patriotic variant. The communication strategies of the analyzed texts draw attention to the fact that landscape, as a constitutive element of literary works, represents an important "playing field" in the compositional structure of the text. Contemporary representations of landscapes serve as a kind of projection screen for national ideology, thus forming a certain part of the National Revival discourse of power.

Článek se zabývá postavou spisovatele-pábitele jako specifickým modelem literární identity ve středoevropském kulturním prostoru. Vychází z poetiky a autofikčních textů Bohumila Hrabala a klade si otázku, zda je fenomén pábitele uzavřený minulosti, nebo zda nachází své pokračování i v současné literatuře. Odpověď je hledána prostřednictvím komparativní analýzy děl Bohumila Hrabala a polského prozaika Waldemara Bawołka, jehož tvorba dosud nebyla s pojmem pábení konfrontována. Studie ukazuje, že oba autoři navzdory generačním rozdílům vytvářejí analogické autofikční subjekty, které spojuje "pohled zdola", zakotvení v provinčním prostoru a skeptický vztah k velkým historickým narativům. Spisovatel-pábitel vystupuje jako outsider, jenž prostřednictvím radikální upřímnosti, grotesky a imaginativní excesivnosti narušuje společenské konvence. Článek interpretuje tuto figuru v souvislosti se středoevropskou tradicí Švejka, sokratovským skepticismem a tradicí kynické filozofie, přičemž zdůrazňuje význam chudoby, nestoudnosti, bdělosti a suverenity myšlení. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována trojhlasé struktuře vyprávění, v níž se střetává hlas "malého člověka", hlas nonkonformního vyvrhele a hlas vizionářského umělce, který proměňuje banální realitu v zázrak slova.

The study addresses the reception of the historical figure Bohuslav Balbín in recent Czech literature, specifically through the example of Stanislav Komárek's prose work Jezovita Balbinus (Academia, 2023). The aim is also to analyze the motif-thematic construction, narrative strategies, genre, and characterization of the protagonist. The study also includes a reflection on relevant interpretations and an overview of the existing critical reception.

The study examines the potential application of game theory principles, originally developed in the context of psychotherapy, to literary texts. It is based on the assumption that the interactions of literary characters are not too far removed from the course of social interactions. It focuses on game situations in short prose works, bases its interpretation on seminal publications in the field of transactional analysis, and accompanies it with three types of graphic models. Based on the analyses, the study argues for the usefulness of applying this psychological concept to the field of literature.

This study deals with the relationship of university students to books, reading and literary education, reports the results of surveys, analyzes the data obtained, and presents conclusions based on the findings. The search for the research problem and methodological solutions for the survey was inspired by Jiří Trávníček's scholarly book Do We Read? Czech Citizens and Their Attitude to the Book (2008), which represents contemporary large-scale survey projects focused on reading in the Czech Republic. The survey involved university students, comprising 139 respondents: 24 men and 115 women. The research factors included patterns of book-reading behavior (the process of reading, buying books), reading strategies ("how," "where," and "when" students read), reading in foreign languages, favorite writers, works, and literary genres, and the correlation between a positive attitude towards literature classes or the teacher and reading.
