Sulla grammaticalizzazione dell'infinito futuro passivo

Roč.29,č.1(2024)

Abstrakt
We consider the process of grammaticalization through which motion verbs in constructions with a supine with a final value end up as a future passive infinitive. The starting point is the use of the supine with the motion verb eo, ire 'to go', the most frequent motion verb in Latin and the one with the broadest semantic value. Such a construction involves a volition modality (comprising the notions of subjectivity, willingness, and intention) so that it acquires a final purpose or goal value. This in turn then takes on a temporal value orientated towards the future. This temporal value turned towards the future tense develops from all of these semantic functions.
