Focus and scope
Neograeca Bohemica is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal that provides a platform for original and review papers studying Late Byzantium and Modern Greece in a period ranging from 1204 A.D. up to these days. The scope of the journal primarily encompasses any areas of Late Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, including Greek linguistics (synchronic and diachronic studies, applied linguistics, socio-linguistics or border disciplines, such as Greek in contact with other languages etc.), Greek literature (historical analysis or analysis of the current state, case studies of singular literary works, reception of the Byzantine and Modern Greek literature in drama/film etc.) and Greek history. It is also open to contributions applying methods of cultural, social or interdisciplinary studies on the Greek speaking areas.
The journal also publishes translations of Late Byzantine and Modern Greek literature and reviews of recent foreign as well as Czech scholarly literature that belongs to the scope of interest of the journal. Reports focused on actual events in the given field are also welcomed.
Neograeca Bohemica is the only journal in the Central Europe dealing with Modern Greek Studies. It seeks to provide publishing platform to both domestic and foreign Byzantinists and Neohellenists in order to strengthen international academic cooperation through research in the field of Greek Studies.
Publication frequency
The journal is published in print (ISSN 1803-6414) and electronically (ISSN 2694-913X) once a year (December).
Indexing and abstracting
Neograeca Bohemica is indexed in ERIH PLUS (European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences) and DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals).
Digital long-term access and archiving policy
Full texts of all papers published in Neograeca Bohemica are available online in the Digital Library of the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University, which is the primary source and repository for academic publications at the Faculty of Arts. The journal website (built in Open Journal System) contains links to the fulltext articles archived in the digital library. The journal website is used mainly as a presentation platform for accessing all the information about the journal.
This approach to long-term access and digital archiving of fulltexts “in one place” (i.e. in the digital library) is a strategic decision that was adopted by the Faculty of Arts many years ago. It allows us to ensure high-quality and consistent processing of metadata as well as long-term preservation (LTP) of digital documents, enabling users to search through all the texts.
Journal history
The journal Neograeca Bohemica is a continuation of the periodical Přednášky České společnosti novořeckých studií (Lectures of the Czech Society for Modern Greek Studies) published between 2001–2013 and containing formerly public lectures of the Society (from 2008 onwards already with parallel shorter title Neograeca Bohemica). From 2014 onwards, Neograeca Bohemica has been transformed to a peer-reviewed scholarly journal which is open to experts in the given field from both Czech and foreign scholar and academic milieu.

Copyright and open access
The published content is property of the journal and its publisher (© Česká společnost novořeckých studií, z. s.). All articles published in Neograeca Bohemica are open-access published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY-SA 4.0 International). For full information about the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, please refer to the Creative Commons site, which includes the full legal code for the license.
1. Information about CC BY-SA 4.0 International
CC BY-SA 4.0 International are publicly available licensing terms that define the conditions under which a work may be used. These conditions must be respected – non-compliance therewith results in infringement of copyright. CC BY-SA 4.0 International grant users certain rights and sets them certain obligations.
CC BY-SA 4.0 International authorize the user to “share” the work, i.e. copy, distribute and communicate to the public online. At the same time, the work can be included in a collection (e.g. a journal, conference proceedings) or modified – adapted or amended. It also allows the whole or a part of the licensed work to be merged with another protected subject-matter of protection (creatively modified, edited, also new creative works may be created based upon the original underlying work). The works made available under the CC BY-SA 4.0 International licensing terms may be used for commercial purposes by third parties. However, the payment must not be obtained for the use of the work (which is available under CC BY-SA 4.0 International), but for example for additional services or the medium.
CC BY-SA 4.0 International oblige the user to indicate the origin of the work (i.e., title, author, source, and reference to the licensing terms) and share the derivative works (adaptations) based upon the underlying work under the same licensing terms. The use of the underlying work without its adaptation does not imply the obligation to license a new work in which the original work was used under the same licensing terms. However, the copyright regime of the new work does not affect the work made available under CC BY-SA 4.0 International.
CC BY-SA 4.0 International does not limit statutory licenses, especially the quotation one, in particular. Citing parts of the work made available under these licensing terms does not give rise to an obligation to make the work in which the quotation was used to license it under the same licensing terms.
CC BY-SA 4.0 International does not exclude copyright protection, claims arising from it or the realization of the personal and property rights of the author of the work.
2. Practical implications
The publication of the work under the public license terms CC BY-SA 4.0 International has, among other things, the following copyright consequences:
- everyone is entitled to:
- share the work – i.e. reproduce, print, distribute (e.g. using P2P networks, upload on file-hosting servers or publishing websites)
- create a derivative (adapted) works based upon the work (e.g. translate)
- even for commercial purposes
- the authorized user is obliged to:
- T – title,
- A – author (author, or rightholder or database maker),
- S – source
- L – license – a reference to the full version of the public licensing terms CC BY-SA 4.0. – International. In printed publications, it is necessary to include the URL link
- indicate the origin, i.e. to indicate the author, name, source (i.e. the journal), or in the form chosen by the author, and a reference to the license terms CC BY-SA 4.0 International
- TASL acronym could be used to memorize the information that must be mentioned:
- ShareAlike – i.e. “maintain the license” – that is to share the creative derivative works (adaptations) based upon the underlying work under the same license as the underlying original
- the work:
- will always be available to others -> newly created content (created by the creative work based upon the original work) cannot be “locked” into a standard copyright protection regime – it will always have to be available under CC BY-SA 4.0 International public licensing terms
- can be uploaded to e-learning platforms
- can be stored in topical and institutional repositories in the form of “publisher's edition”, i.e. in the reviewed version, including final formatting and correction
- can be also used for commercial purposes
