Author Guidelines
General remarks
Neograeca Bohemica is a scholarly peer reviewed journal. Only manuscripts of sufficient quality that meet the focus and scope of the journal will be reviewed (see the details about the peer review process). By submitting the manuscript, the author confirms that his/her paper is a product of original research, free of plagiarism and fulfills the publication ethics of the journal. The submitted manuscript has to meet the established formal criteria. The author can be asked for the formal adjustment of the submission. The journal reserves the privilege to do any language or formal emendations of all texts (particular changes have to be approved by the author during proofreading).
Paper submissions for possible publication are accepted throughout the whole year. The editorial board decides on suitable dates for publication of individual texts. Paper submissions and editorial correspondence should be sent by e-mail to: neograecabohemica@gmail.com.
The languages of publication are English, German, Modern Greek, and Czech. If the author submits a paper in the language which is not his/her mother tongue, the manuscript should be proof-read by a native speaker.
The following five categories of texts are included in Neograeca Bohemica:
1) original research articles and review articles on important or current topics of Late Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies (the text should not exceed 35,000 characters – footnotes and spaces included, bibliography excluded)
2) editions of shorter Late Byzantine and Modern Greek texts not yet published in journals or books
3) translations of Late Byzantine and Modern Greek literature (the translation should be accompanied by a short introduction focusing on the scope and originality of the translation and the method of translation)
4) book reviews (the text should not exceed 7,000 characters – footnotes and spaces included, bibliography excluded)
5) reports regarding important anniversaries, meetings, workshops/seminars or other recent events relating to Late Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies (the text should not exceed 7,000 characters – footnotes and spaces included, bibliography excluded).
Formal guidelines
Format of the manuscript
Contributions should be submitted in the electronic format (.doc/.docx/.rtf) and formatted as little as possible. The authors are pleased:
- not to indent first lines of paragraphs, titles or subtitles in any way, especially not by using the Tab key or multiple spaces
- not to use small caps, CAPITAL LETTERS or any other special formatting of characters
- to use italics only for the titles of the books or when quoting the primary sources in the main body of the text
- to use the Unicode fonts only (if the paper contains any special non-Unicode fonts, they should be attached as separate files)
Structure of the manuscript
The manuscript should be written in the following order with the following subheadings:
1. Title
The author is required to accompany the paper submission by a cover page that includes the manuscript title, author's name, affiliation and e-mail address. The cover page should be sent as a separate file. The paper should include only its title, not the name of its author.
To secure a fair review process, the acknowledgement, conflict of interest and funding should also be given on the cover page, and not in the manuscript itself. This information will be included in the manuscript if accepted.
2. Abstract
A short abstract not exceeding 1,000 characters should immediately follow the title of the paper. The abstract should be written in English. The papers written in Czech, Slovak, German or Modern Greek should also quote the English translation of the title of the paper in the beginning of the abstract.
3. Keywords
The list of 3–6 keywords in English should follow after the abstract paragraph.
4. Main body of the text
Main body of the text should not exceed 35,000 characters – footnotes and spaces included, bibliography excluded.
The references should be given as in-text citations. Use the author's last name and the year of publication. For direct quotations, include the page number as well. For example:

The references should always be transliterated if the source is in the Greek alphabet (see below, 5.c) or other than Latin script.
Ibid., 15. (“΄Οπ.π.” in a text written in Greek) should be used for a work cited in the immediately preceding reference.
5. Bibliography
Bibliographical references should immediately follow the main text in alphabetical order and have the following format:
a) The abbreviations referring to the editor/translator (ed., επιμ., transl., übers., přel., μετάφρ.) and the on-line sources annotations (“available from”, «πρόσβαση από», „dostupné z“) should be quoted in the language of the paper.
b) The places of publication should be quoted in the language of the cited publication.
c) The bibliographical references containing the Greek script should be transliterated according to ISO 843 (1997 TR):

6. Figures, Tables, Photographs and Images (if applicable)
All figures, tables, photographs, images etc. should be quoted within the text and numbered consecutively according to the order of text citation. If they are reproduced or adapted from a copyrighted source, the author must obtain permission for their use from the copyright holder and give credit to the original author and copyright holder. The author is also responsible for all related costs.
