Abstract

This article discusses the discovery of 56 fragments of skeletal remains of the female common frog (Rana temporaria) and three bones of a bird with no further taxonomic classification. The context suggests that the skeletal remains functioned as a symbol providing protection for the building from rain, or more generally, more suitable climatic conditions during the construction of the tower staircase. While taking into account the ambiguity of the skeletal remains as sacrifice, we believe that our model is the most probable explanation for the presented find.
