Towards a poetics of the sea in Tintin

Vol.39,No.2(2018)

Abstract
The representation of the sea is omnipresent in The Adventures of Tintin, especially in the first fifteen albums of Hergé. This study focuses on the poetics of the sea, in the widest sense of the word, in Tintin. Three elements must be taken into consideration from this point of view: a) the typology of the characters of sailors, based on axiological and, to a lesser extent, on technical oppositions; b) the specificity of the temporality of the sea; c) the hymn to the sea, since the latter is essentially a poetry which is spoken as well as it is lived in Hergé's work.
