Author Guidelines

Études romanes de Brno is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal, and the papers published must therefore meet both professional and formal criteria resulting from this condition. When deciding about the publication of a manuscript, the editorial board bases its decision on evaluations by the reviewing board or by independent experts, in cases of highly specialized papers, but still in the thematic line of the journal. At the same time, board also takes into consideration the formal aspect of the manuscript (or recommends formal editing to the author, respectively). The editorial board also decides on suitable dates for the publication of individual texts. Submissions can be made at any time. Authors are informed about the results of the peer review process as soon as possible, no later than in three months. Unsolicited manuscripts will not be returned, no honoraria will be paid. The final decision on the publication of all texts falls within the authority of the editorial board of the journal Études romanes de Brno. All scientific papers in sections “Dossier thématique” and “Études” of the journal are peer-reviewed (non-reviewed are the other contributions in the section “Comptes rendus”; the editorial board assumes the right to refuse to publish reviews on books older than three years since their publishing date).

Use of AI Tools in Manuscript Preparation

The use of AI tools to improve language, style, or grammar (e.g., Grammarly, DeepL Write) is acceptable and does not require disclosure. However, we do not support the use of generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Midjourney) for producing original content such as text, data, or images. Manuscripts must reflect the authors’ own intellectual contribution. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their work, including any parts modified by AI tools. AI tools must not be listed as (co-)authors. If generative AI was used in any capacity, this must be explicitly stated in the manuscript under a section titled Use of AI Services.

Examples of statements:

AI used for minor linguistic support
"The authors declare the use of AI tools, specifically [insert tool names], to support minor grammar corrections and stylistic improvements. All AI-assisted suggestions were manually reviewed to preserve the accuracy and intent of the original text."

AI used for analytical or content support
"The authors declare the use of AI tools, specifically [insert tool names], to assist in drafting selected passages and/or editing parts of the analytical framework or experimental materials. All AI-generated content was carefully verified, revised, and approved by the authors to ensure clarity, correctness, and originality."
