Abstract
The submitted paper deals with the role of space and time in a novel Vendredi ou les limbes du Pacifique by Michel Tournier. In accordance with the theory of semantic fields of Jurij M. Lotman, the different types of space and passages between them can be observed in the novel. The attention is focused on the influence of these types of space and passages on the novel plot, as well as on behavior of the characters. The way how time reflects the perception of solitude by the main character is studied, too.
