Suffering as a spur to inspiration and literary production : the case of Messaouda by Abdelhak Serhane

Vol.44,No.1(2023)

Abstract
In his novel Massaouda, Abdelhak Serhane certainly paints a black picture of filial relationships, social injustices, marital persecution and visceral suffering endured by a marginalized, voiceless and brutalized generation. However, its fundamental stake aims to show, beyond violence and cruelty, vices and abuse, the saving power of writing which manages to reverse the dominant / dominated roles, to stand up as a means of resistance and revolt and, in the end, to grant a language to the voiceless to express their hatred and their refusal.
