On the path of insomnia : Becquer's trace on the angels of Rafael Alberti

Vol.44,No.2(2023)

Abstract
This paper studies the poetic influence of Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer (1836-1870) on Rafael Alberti's (1902-1999) book Sobre los ángeles (1929). Firstly, it presents Alberti as an explicit admirer of his artistic sources, to reach the vital and poetic convergence with Bécquer. Therefore, the analysis of this tie is traced through three topics: the first one is related to the sense of lost, linked to the childhood, as his first paradise, and to the death; on the second one, this paper examines the presence of a nature which goes against the physical integrity of the poetic voice; thirdly, it observes how both authors address the matter of time and the dreams. Finally, from these shared topics the study gathers the origin of both poetic motivations: their faith in writing.
