As the title suggests, the paper presents the contrastive analysis of the meanings of the basic colour term blue and green in Italian, French and Polish. As the first step prototypical reference of the term is established in each language. Most attention is paid to the idiomatic and paremiology extension of the prototypical meaning. An attempt is made to discover cultural similiarities and differences "hidden" in the analysed words.
