Anton Hertzog (about 1691/1692–1740) was involved in the work to create both the frescoes in the former theatre hall and in the former library hall of the Jesuit College in Vienna and the fresco in the hall of ancestors in Jaroměřice Castle in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou. This article is based on an extensive analysis of the historical context in which the three frescoes were created, how they were executed, and their current state of preservation. It highlights Hertzog's stylistic qualities as a figure painter and examines the attributions made throughout time to his occupation as a fresco painter. It also offers new insights on Hertzog's life, network and body of work.
