In addition to a few minor findings about the work of Franz Xaver Wagenschön (1726–1790), the article primarily presents a sketch which has recently been attributed to him from the collections of Sychrov state chateau. The small oil painting depicting The Torture of St. John the Evangelist before the Porta Latina in Rome can be linked with the canvas painted for the church dedicated to the same saint in Eger / Erlau in Hungary (1766), which since the 19th century is to be found in Sáta, also in Hungary. This is at present probably one of the few known oil sketch by Wagenschön, which can help shed light on the me.
