"Zu allen diesen kirchen arbeiten hat er zugleich auch die Riße verfertigt..." : the Brno sculptor Andreas Schweigl (1735–1812) as graphic artist, decorator, and architect

Vol.62,No.2(2013)

Abstract
The study concentrates primarily on an analysis of the drawings of the Brno sculptor Andreas Schweigl, placed in a broader Central European context. In addition to the way his drawings were used as part of individual commissions (the Hradiště church of St. Hippolytus), attention is particularly devoted to newly discovered drawings which extend our previous knowledge of Schweigl's work (Bučovice, Pernštejn, Tuřany). A special group of works consists of a set of prints made after drawings by Schweigl, representing a hitherto practically unknown side of his work. On the basis of the extant written and visual sources, Schweigl's work in the field of architecture is also evaluated, as is the role he played in individual commissions for decorating buildings (Královo Pole, Petrov, Tuřany, etc.).
