"... mit solchen Männern, wie Sie sind, haben Sr Excellenz mein Hochgräfl: gnädiger Herr Principal gerne zu thun" : Count Ignatz Dominik Chorynský of Ledská and his artists Franz Anton Sebastini, Ignatz Raab, Franz Laurenz Korompay, Andreas Schweigl, David Roentgen et alii

Vol.62,No.2(2013)

Abstract
The article publishes documents, in particular extracts from correspondence, contracts, and receipts, from the years 1760 to 1779, which testify to the activity as patron of the arts of the high-ranking provincial official in Prussian and Austrian Silesia and above all discriminating lover, supporter, and collector of art, Count Ignatz Dominik Chorynský (1729–1792). With the help of these sources it is possible to create a good picture of the nature of his relationship to the visual arts and, specifically, with their creators – the painters, sculptors and artistic craftsmen who either repeatedly or only occasionally appear in his service. At the same time the sources show the role played by paid agents, active for example in Vienna and in Brno, and also by advisors from among Chorynský's noble friends and relations. Last but not least, the sources clarify many technical details connected with the acquisition of altarpieces, ways of the cross, and sculptures, and also portraits and art craftwork, when, for example, they provide valuable information about their creation and the logistics of organising their transport to the site they were intended for, and likewise about the prices paid for them.
