The article is dedicated to the comparative typological analysis of the genre and compositionalnarrative structure of M. Yu. Lermontov's novel "Hero of Our Time" and H. Hesse's "Steppe Wolf". The typological correlation manifests itself at the basic levels of the novels' poetics: the compositional-narrative model; the principles of the creation of the Author image and expression of his position in the text; the sings of the metanovel.
