Publication ethics
The editorial board only accepts original articles from the field of philology and Russian area studies and related disciplines, which have not been published elsewhere to date (this also applies to the foreign language versions of texts and translations) and whose authors have no intent to publish elsewhere in future. Articles must comply with formal and content requirements for scientific texts.
1. Duties and rights of authors
The authors undertake:
- not to publish under another name, anonymously or under a pseudonym,
- to submit to the review procedure and respect it,
- to cite all materials that contributed to the results of the research contained in a submitted text,
- to observe all formal requirements of the texts published on the journal website,
- to state the names of all co-authors, photographers, etc.,
- to state only those authors who contributed to the results of the research as co-authors,
- to ensure the approval of the final version for publishing by all co-authors,
- to report any potential conflicts of interest,
- to notify the editorial board of significant errors and inaccuracies discovered during the review process in order that they may be remedied. In the case of an already published text, the editorial board shall ensure that a correction is published,
- that all knowledge is original and true and that they are not engaging in plagiarism,
- to state sources of the financing of their research,
- not to offer identical or very similar texts to other journals.
Authors have the right:
- not to publish an article if they do not agree with the changes suggested by the reviewers and the editorial board refuses to publish the article without changes.
By sending the final version of the article to the editorial board, the author gives the publisher of the Opera slavica journal the right to publish the article in Opera slavica in printed and electronic form, including a version freely available on-line.
2. Duties and rights of reviewers
The reviewers undertake:
- to be fully objective and impartial in the assessment of articles and to avoid personal insults and criticism,
- to credibly corroborate their opinions and criticism,
- to notify the editorial board about any similarity or overlapping of the topic of the reviewed text with a text already published,
- not to abuse information and knowledge arising from a reviewed article,
- to notify the editorial board and author of missing significant texts published on the given topic,
- to notify the editorial board of any potential professional incapacity to review a submitted text or conflicts of interest.
Reviewers have the right:
- to refuse to give an opinion in the case of a) a conflict of interest, b) financial or other benefits from a processed positive/negative opinion, c) a cardinal difference in opinion on the main topic of an article, d) a close working or personal relationship to the author of the article.
3. Duties and rights of the editorial board
The editorial board undertakes:
- to support freedom of expression and plurality of opinions,
- to ensure a fair and impartial review procedure,
- to endeavour to continuously improve the content and formal aspects of the journal,
- after discussion, to publish any eventual corrections, errata, apologies or responses to articles, etc.,
- to guarantee the observance of all required rules,
- to consider manuscripts objectively in terms of the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious faith, ethnicity, nationality or political beliefs of the author,
- to act in compliance with the law in cases of violation of copyright and plagiarism.
The editorial board has the right:
- to request the observance of all formal and content requirements,
- to refuse to submit an article for the review procedure in cases where it clearly does not correspond to the focus of the journal, violates the publishing ethics of the journal, has a very low level of grammar or content, or if it violates the policies of the professional scientific periodical in any other way,
- to refuse to publish an article, a) if it violates the ethical or moral principles given on the journal website, b) if the author refuses to change the article to the required formal appearance, c) if the article is clearly of a low grammatical standard or d) if the author refuses to include any justified criticism from the review procedure,
- to request that the author shorten an article or, in substantiated cases, conversely publish an article that is longer than permitted in the instructions for authors,
- to make all language, grammatical, stylistic, formal and other modifications to an article; all the given changes may be assessed by the author during the author’s page proofing,
- to decide whether or not to publish any disputable articles,
- to withdraw an article from the electronic version of the journal in case of retroactive discovery of a serious violation of publishing ethics.
4. Duties and rights of editors
Editors undertake:
- to devote due care to the quality of the journal and published articles,
- to be fully objective and avoid any conflicts of interest in all cases,
- to uphold anonymity and confidentiality in the review process,
- not to abuse information and knowledge arising from a reviewed article,
- not to act as intermediaries between the authors of articles and the editorial board, and to address any appeals of the parties to the review procedure and other complaints.
