In this article we consider the poetic function of florosemantic code and flower metaphors in Goncharov's novel "The Precipice". The flowers' and the birds' images are deployed in conjunction with every woman character in different ways according to the genre code that defines her personal story. Therefore, they are necessary elements in building a common history of heroines and Goncharov'se novel as a whole.
