The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the program performance of the Bloc "The People and the Intelligentsia" and Turgenev's novel "Nov'". The work notes the closeness of the historiosophical views of these artists of the word. In Nov', there are two possible options for the development of Russia: one — the main one in the years of creation and release of the novel — is evolutionary, and the second — catastrophic, due to the very substance of the awakened people. It is proved that the appearance of the Blok intellectual who goes to the people, in general, repeats the features of Turgenev's "sower" from Nov', which turned out to be a typical phenomenon for Russian life of the beginning of the 20th century. The article of 1908 contains the same idea as in the novel of 1877: despite the many years of efforts by the intelligentsia, the feature that separates it from people's Russia remains insurmountable. The question of the people and the intelligentsia, important for these writers, organically merges in their creations with the problem of the future of Russia.
