The interpretation's problem of historical content in the Vladimir Odoevskyʼs dilogy "Salamander"

Abstract
The article criticizes the purely rationalistic method of "historical interpretation" of mystical-fantastic works of Russian Romanticism, which has long dominated the Russian literary criticism, in particular, one of the "mysterious stories" of V. F. Odoevsky—the dilogy "Salamander". The authors highlight obvious contradictions and strains arising from such an approach in interpreting its main idea and plot. A comparative analysis of A. S. Pushkin's historical novel "The Blackamoor of Peter the Great" and V. F. Odoevsky's mystical story "The Southern Coast of Finland" reveals the principal differences in the portrayal of Peter the Great.
