Vol.11,No.1(2008)

Abstract
The author of the present study deals with the differences in Czech and Slovák poetry concerning the relation between the so-called subjective Romanticism and folk songs or folk inspiration in genereal. Comparing the poetry of K. H. Mácha and Slovak Romantics, e.g. Janko Kráľ, she came to the conclusion that both the language an the poetics of the Czech poet - unlike his Slovak colleague - is more subjective and individualistic while the poetics and the language of the other depends more on their folk sources. There are several reasons for this fact including the efforts of Slovak protestants and their specific cultural position.
