Among creators of an academic discipline with a special significance to each nation, which is linguistics, H. Polenaković (1909-1984) displayed the highest versatility in Macedonia. He concentrated his academic research upon the issues related to the history of literature, particularly upon folklore studies, the old literature of the Cyrillo-Metodian period and upon problematic issues of the XIX century. These fascinations were also accompanied by other academic disciplines, which were related to or which were complementary with the ones listed above, among others, by numismatics, heraldry, textology. The Macedonian academic also made use of every opportunity to express his opinions on the Macedonian language and on linguistic issues connected with that language. He dedicated several of his works to the Macedonian lexicography of the nineteenth century. He also addressed other domains of research into language, for example jargon and anthroponymy.
