The early poetry of the Slovene poet Tomaž Šalamun in the light of European neo-avantgarde

Abstract
In the paper we research the early poetry of Tomaž Šalamun. We analyse two of his books: Poker (Ugly duckling, 1966) and Romanje za Maruško (1971), which were an important breakthrough in the historical development of Slovenian Poetry. In these texts the poet finished with classical lyrical confession, the lyrical subject began to hide himself. The poet mostly uses montage as a mosaic of free associations. Under the pressure of the unbounded fantasy the new poetical world is born with fragments of images, stories or just linguistic associations. The poet is also using elements of surrealism and polyphony. His poetry is the important part of European neoavant-garde.
