Kafka's public, private and linguistic impact : Kafka and adolescent reading

Abstract
The article reflects on several themes related to Kafka's legacy and phenomena that have emerged more prominently in the centenary year of Kafka's death. The author summarizes the activities of the main cultural figures organizing events during this "Kafkaesque" year. She describes Kafka's current public influence in both spatial and visual contexts. The article also focuses on Kafka's private impact, specifically the influence Kafka's prose has had on the attitudes, experiences, and actions of individuals, based on the testimonies of various artists. The author further explores Kafka's impact on the Czech language, interpreting the meaning of the term "Kafkaesque". Last but not least, she analyzes Kafka's role in adolescent reading through a diachronic comparison. Additionally, she notes how the writer has become an integral part of Czech national identity, as well as a commercial brand. The article includes several analytical charts and reproductions of authentic materials.
