Abstract

This paper focuses on three significant songs from the late 1960s, specifically their interpretation and shifts in meaning. The songs "Cesta" (Way) by Marta Kubišová, "Píseň o mé zemi" (Song about my Country) by Karel Černoch, and "Bratříčku, zavírej vrátka" (Little Brother, Close the Gate) by Karel Kryl were created during the reform period in Czechoslovakia (1968–1969). The article analyzes the original intentionality of these songs and their subsequent reinterpretation in the context of the political situation. It also discusses semantic inversion and cultural crossover that influenced their reception. Through these songs, one can better understand the atmosphere and mood of the time, including the confusion and political struggles within the Communist Party and society.
