Crossing the Borders

The autumn issue of the Theatralia (2017/2) explores the border between professional and non-professional theatre.

In the thematic section “Yorick”, the topic is treated by Andrea Hanáčková in her overview of amateur religious theatre in Moravia after 1990, and Jan Šotkovský who summarizes the development of Czech non-professional drama after 2000.

The non-thematic section “Spectrum” features a study on the first staging of the Oedipus the King in the Theatro Olympico in 1585 by Eva Stehlíková, a study on Miloš Wasserbauer’s thinking on staging opera by Šárka Havlíčková Kysová, and an analysis of Slovenian production ATLAS LJUBLANA by Tomaž Krpič.

In the “Guest” section, Vladimír Fekar, dramaturg of the Městské divadlo Zlín (Municipal Theatre in Zlín), interviews Jan Honsa, actor of theatre group from Ostrava, Karolinka.

In the regular section “Orientation”, books of theatrological interest are reviewed discussing, for example, the Amateur Circle, the Divadlo U stolu (Theatre at the Table), actors education, and the work of Czech scenographers.

Included are reports on Brno theatre exhibitions (e.g. Jeden život a představení – One Life And One Performance, Moravské zemské museum – Moravian Museum), on the theatrological congress held in Prague in Spring, on Herman Nitch’s Pfingstfest in Prinzendorf, etc.
