Dear colleagues,

We would like to invite you to contribute to 1/2019 issue of the scholarly journal Theatralia. Journal of Theatre Studies.

On the occasion of hundred-year jubilee of Ingmar Bergman, the spring 2019 issue of Theatralia will focus on this outstanding personality.

Ten years after his death, Bergman is still being reflected first of all as a film director, especially outside Sweden. This is clear also with respect to the scholarly literature focused on his work. However, there are monographs and studies being published exploring Bergman phenomenon from other perspectives too. One can name works by Birgitte Steen, Maaret Koskinen and Egil Törnqvist, which study Bergman as an artist who moved freely between film, theatre and literature during his life. Theatralia issue devoted to Ingmar Bergman would like to continue rethinking Bergman in this direction.

The aim of this issue is thus to approach the extensive work of Ingmar Bergman, the Swedish filmmaker, theatre director and writer from various perspectives related to the other national or medial contexts in which his work appeared and continues to appear.

Suggested topics for peer-reviewed section are: the fluid character of Ingmar Bergman’s texts, Bergman’s scripts staged in theatre, Bergman as a theatre director, challenges in translating Bergman, films of Ingmar Bergman and their role in local context, etc. In the Events section the reports from current Bergman related events are welcome. The Reviews section will welcome reviews of new books about Ingmar Bergman or reviews of current productions of Bergman’s scripts in theatres. However, the Spectrum section  (also peer-reviewed) is open to articles which do not necessarily relate to the chosen topic of this issue. The same applies to the sections Events and Reviews.

If you are interested in contributing into the issue Ingmar Bergman Recontexted, please send a brief abstract (approx. 100 words) to Karolína Stehlíková (stehlikova@phil.muni.cz) latest by 28 February 2018 31 May 2018.

Your contribution should be proofread and follow the house style of Theatralia (available at the website: http://www.phil.muni.cz/journals/index.php/theatralia/pages/view/authors)

The issue will be published in English in April 2019.

Theatralia, Journal of Theatre Studies, ISSN 1803-845X (print), ISSN 2336-4548 (online), is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal issued by the Department of Theatre Studies, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University Brno, the Czech Republic, some of the issues being published in collaboration with the Department of Theatre, Film and Media Studies, Faculty of Arts, Palacký University, Olomouc.

Theatralia has been published in its present form since 2009. Published twice a year, each issue focuses on a particular topic from history or theory of theatre in the section called “Yorick”, while the articles on different subjects are grouped in the section called “Spectrum”. Articles in both of these sections are subject to a peer reviewing process.

The aim of the journal is to map theatre in its diverse language and genre forms regardless of time and territory.

The journal consists of scholarly articles, reviews and published archival materials of all kinds. It welcomes contributions by specialists from other institutions and also publishes articles based on outstanding student theses.
