Call for Papers: Contemporary German-speaking Theatre
Call for Papers
Contemporary German-speaking Theatre
This thematic issue aims to address contemporary tendencies in German-speaking theatre and drama, as well as to commemorate anniversaries of many significant creators (for example theatre-directors Christoph Marthaler or Frank Castorf, Dušan D. Pařízek, a Czech born director working in German-speaking countries, or playwrights Elfriede Jelinek and Kathrin Röggla). Besides, one of the most important Austrian playwrights, Thomas Bernhard, would celebrate his 90th birthday in 2021.
This issue’s goal is to conceptually introduce the contemporary German-speaking theatre, drama and texts of the last decade by either offering an analytical assessment of the work of particular creators or a theoretical insight focusing on the forms of theatre and drama.
We accept papers written in Czech, English and German.
Possible topics include (but are not limited to):
- Changes in German-speaking theatre practice in the last decade
- Analyses of productions, performances, or plays by particular authors (i.e. Christoph Marthaler, Thomas Bernhard, Elfriede Jelinek and others)
- German-speaking drama and its transformations (critical reflections of contemporary drama)
- Translations of contemporary German-speaking plays (and their staging in the Czech and Slovak Republic)
- Theoretical approaches to theatre, drama, theatre text in contemporary German-speaking theatre studies
