A drawing for Cardinal Troyer : three drawn accounts of the enthronement ceremony of Ferdinand Julius Troyer

Vol.66,No.1(2017)

Abstract
The famous enthronement of Cardinal Ferdinand Julius Troyer of Troyerstein (1698–1758) was recorded in 1747 or slightly later on three large-scale drawings, two of which are located in a private collection and one in the Moravian Gallery in Brno. The first two drawings depicting the cardinal's arrival to Olomouc and the celebratory procession to the cathedral represent either the basis for graphics documenting the whole enthronement or proposals for canvas paintings or frescos. The drawing in the Moravian Gallery depicting three of Troyer's enthronement medallions was evidently created as the basis for a subsequent graphic sheet.
