Metaphors of Ukrainian political crisis in Russian and Slovak mass media

Abstract
The author of the article analyses several metaphors, which journalists used frequently to depict Ukrainian political crisis from 2013 to 2016 in Russian and Slovak journalistic sources. The article implies that the choice of metaphors in journalism is not coincidental. Thus, special attention will be paid to cognitive aspect of metaphors. In the process of analysis the functions of given metaphors are outlined, primarily the manipulative function, i.e. the ability of a metaphor to affect the subconscious mind of a reader and to influence his evaluation.
