The aim of this presentation is to describe the contemporary Bulgarian language situation and the interrelations among the varieties of the national Bulgarian language with an accent on the growing tendency of using the substandard idioms in the official communication. Analyzing and identifying these phenomena allows for making predictions about future tendencies in the language situation, about carrying out language policies and making appropriate decisions regarding prospective changes in codification, new methods and approaches to language teaching and measures for improving language culture of society.
