User's information literacy vs. next generation search interfaces

Vol.2,No.2(2010)
Information Education and Information Literacy

Abstract

Definition of information literacy is relatively simple: „To be information literate, a person must be able to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.“ Web search engines, web amount, web traffic – they are barriers for users. Libraries with catalogs and commercial information sources – this is offer for users, for their information needs. Many resources = many user interfaces. In last years there is a very reborn type of search – metasearch/federated search. Users are always unsatisfied. New chance is provided by next generation catalogs, for example Summon or Primo.
