Formation of romanticism in Central Europe and possibilities of comparative literature

In the first part of the paper the author indicates key theoretical questions which allocate the phenomena of formation of romanticism within the Central European context. The author points out that that was the period of arising new and various autonomous local cultures. Later, under the political pressure, the traditional multiculturalism transformed into unnatural kinds of isolation. Unfortunatelly, this model of presentation of national literatures has persisted. Further, in the next part of the paper, the author draughts one of the options how to change the situation by using new methods of comparative literature. He focuses on the proceedings at the time of formation of romanticism within the Slovak-Polish context like revealing of national spirit in form of famous history, backset to folk traditions and language, as well as first signals of Slavophilic thinking.
