Two versions of an edifying moralistic text for illiterate city jurors from Brno – Pro Eruditione Juratorum Illiteratorum

Vol.27,No.1(2013)

Abstract
The article presents a Late Medieval edifying German text, consisting of 82 Verses, aimed at the "illiterate" city jurors (not proficient in Latin), attributed to Wenzel from Iglau (Václav z Jihlavy). A parallel edition of both known versions of the text is included in the paper; the primary source tradition is sketched (two manuscripts belonging to the Brno City Archive, Sign. Nr. 5 and Nr. 2762) along with the analysis of selected language features as well as the central topics, also considering some available textual parallels.
