Author Guidelines

  • Linguistica Brunensia is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal.
  • We accept contributions from general and comparative linguistics (including etymology, glottochronology) and Indo-European studies, as well as general-linguistic contributions to the Slavic language area (with emphasis on Czech). We also welcome reviews of linguistic publications published in the past year and reports on scientific events.
  • We accept articles in English, German, Russian or Czech language.

  • Contributions are published in 5 secitons:
    • Articles - this section contains contributions, which give coherent analysis of a defined linguistic problematics. Length of an article offered for publication in this section should not exceed 27 000 characters. Longer manuscripts may be accepted only in case of exceptional quality of such contributions. Failing that condition authors may be asked to shorten their manuscripts before peer-review process starts.
    • Materials- this section contains contributions, which are focused on description and presenting language data. Length of an article offered for publication in this section should not exceed 18000 characters. Longer manuscripts may be accepted only in case of exceptional quality of such contributions.
    • Chronicle - informs about significant personalities & their bibliography.
    • Reviews & Reports- brief overview about new publications, conferences.
    • Supplement- this section contains contributions summarising data presented in prior surveys. To „Supplement“ section are typically included review articles or articles on history of linguistics.
  • Each author may publish only one article in the category "Articles" and "Materials" (exceptions can be made for co-authored papers). Authors may submit only one manuscript at a time to editorial board of Linguistica Brunensia for consideration (excl. coauthored works). Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. Manuscript offered for consideration should be authentic and original (see Publication Ethics).
  • In addition to scientific criteria, contributions submitted to the "Articles", "Materials" or "Supplements" sections must meet the following formal criteria, set by the Editorial Board, and maintain the following structure:
    • the title of the article must be in the same language as the article and in English
    • the article must contain an abstract and key words in English
    • the article itself must be typed in Times New Roman, size 12pt
    • the ideal length of an article is approximately 15 pages
    • for the sake of clarity, footnotes should be kept to a minimum –  both in terms of their number and their scope
    • the article should include only footnotes created by the automatic function of the word-prosessing editor; please do not use footnotes in tables
    • the article must contain a Summary (written in a world language or in Czech and at the same time, the language of the Summary should be different from the language of the paper)
    • the article must contain the name of the author, the name and the address of her or his institution and the author‘s e-mail address
    • bibliographic data should be in accordance with the ČSN ISO 690:2011 Harvard

  • When deciding about publication of a manuscript, the editorial board bases itself on evaluations by independent experts. Peer-review process is anonymous. Only papers accepted for section "Articles" and "Materials" are peer-reviewed. Contributions in sections "Chronicle", "Reviews & Reports" and "Supplement" are not peer-reviewed. We accept articles in English, German, Russian or Czech language.
  • Authors may submit only one manuscript at a time to editorial board of Linguistica Brunensia for consideration (excl. coauthored works). Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. Manuscript offered for consideration should be authentic and original (see Publication Ethics).
  • Aside from professional criteria, papers offered for publication must also meet formatting & bibliographic standards specified in Author Formatting Guide, references are to be formatted in accordance with the citation standard ČSN ISO 690:2011 Harvard (see Author Formatting Guide).
  • The editorial board also decides on suitable dates for publication of individual texts. Unsolicited manuscripts will not be returned, no honoraria will be paid. The final decision on publication of all texts falls within the authority of the editorial board of the journal.
  • Manuscripts are to be sent via online editorial system, in exceptional case via e-mail in 2 copies: [1] - file format .doc.docx.odt, [2] - file format .pdf. We do not accept paper manuscripts or manuscripts on data media (floppy disc, CD, DVD). All communication with editorial board and executive editor incl. peer-review proces and proofreading is held via online editorial system. Corrected proofs are to be sent back in commented .pdf file or as scanned printed document.
