Abstract

The article is dealing with regional distribution of  participation rate in pre-primary education measured by the ratio of  children enrolled in pre-primary education and the total number of  children aged 3–5 years (age interval corresponding to pre-primary education in the Czech Republic). The analysis focuses mainly on the factors which influenced regional distribution of  the participation rate most strongly. These included demographic, socio-geographic and socio-economic indi-cators, but also an indicator measuring the actual level of  meeting the demand for pre-primary education (the percentage of  rejected applications for the participation of  a child in pre-primary education). The indicators significantly correlating with the variable to be explained (rate of  participation in pre-primary education) were subjected to factor analysis. Based on its results, factors with the biggest influence on regional variation were identified. Furthermore, groups  of regions with similar characteristics were identified through the use o f cluster analysis. Characteristic values o f factors in these groups also indicated similar approaches of  parents in these regions to pre-primary education of  their children.
