Possibilities and Limits in Evaluation of Ideological Aspects of Textbooks

Abstract

In this paper the author examines ideological content of textbooks. She illustrates the shifting perspective of researches and their methodologies on examples from a research of gender in textbooks. Using Eco’s classification of open and closed texts, the paper analyses ideological aspects of texts and exercises related to environmental topics in English textbooks.
